Intuitive Horse Facilitator Training

The Intuitive Horse Equine Assisted Personal Development (EAPD) Facilitator Training is a three year part time course for people looking to work professionally in the field of EAPD with clients interested in exploring their personal development. This training is for people who have more than one horse and who are keen to work in a way that follows the horse’s natural ways.

The training takes you on a journey to develop facilitation skills in the field of EAPD, work on self-awareness and deepen your relationship with your horses. These three principles sit at the core of this comprehensive training.

The training will qualify you to facilitate 1-1 sessions with a client and horse and within a herd of horses.

We are extremely passionate about horse welfare and the horse-human relationship. This training shows you how to have a conscious relationship with your horses and looks in depth at horses innate needs and the nuanced levels of communication they use with us all the time. Once you are on the path to understanding and acknowledging all these elements we show you how to work with your horses in an EAPD setting in such a way that both horse and human can gain from the experience.

IH EAPD trains people to be competent to work with clients who are seeking personal development, a level of help and support through a personal challenge or who may already be in engaged in therapy and are looking to work with the horses as an addition to their therapeutic process. The horse work can also be seen as complimentary to other modes of therapy, often accelerating a person’s insights and changes.

Course support

IH trainers will support you through the training in the following ways:

  • Your personal development journey. It is essential you work through your own process throughout the EAPD training to ensure you have an understanding of your emotional and psychological processes. The trainers will, in a safe and contained space, guide and support you with this
  • Support for your horses! The trainers at IH recognise the horse’s role in EAPD and take it seriously. The process we guide you through is transformational for both you and your horses as we aim to bring you back to connecting and aligning with your true selves. We like to get to know not just you but your horses as well so we can help guide you on how your horses are taking to the work and how they are communicating with you. The relationship between you and your horses will deepen as a result of this work
  • Assessing your venue and how to set it up effectively and appropriately for EAPD sessions (optional site visit as well)
  • Interactive participation on the workshop webinars and an opportunity for you to get to know others in your cohort. On the webinars we will practice person-to-person techniques to support your learning process
  • 1-1 trainer-trainee coaching and mentoring for case studies. This means the trainer can work with you and your specific needs to help you progress through the training. Case studies are a continuation of the training!
  • Progress reviews throughout the training

If you are interested in learning more about the training and joining our course please email for more information. Once you have read through it we can arrange a no obligation call to discuss whether the training is right for you and your horses.

Testimonials from previous trainees

"Doing the training has been an amazing experience! Emma is caring, supportive, insightful, incredibly knowledgeable and above all passionate about what she does - everything a great teacher should be! I’ve had so many “lightbulb” moments of insight throughout the training. I feel this work allows us to work with horses and our clients in a very authentic, and heartfelt way! It's only once you've taken a step back that you recognise how much you have grown and developed over the course of the training. I can't recommend the facilitator training highly enough!"

I was drawn towards the Intuitive Horse Facilitator training course because I had read wonderful things about the work over the past couple of years and felt it could be a way of potentially enriching and expanding my practice as a self employed counsellor.  I found it to be an incredible experience on many levels and learned much about myself from the horses’ honest reflections and responses to me.  The training is excellent and sat very well with my person-centred background and there is no doubt that it has helped deepen all my client work.”

The depth of connection that I have found with the horses for myself and others, through the path this IHF course has taken me on has been extraordinary.  I am more at peace with myself than ever and find the opportunity to share this route to personal development more fulfilling than I could have imagined - Emma has a gift like no other and is so generous in the sharing of it.

“This course is not for the casual student; but for those brave enough to commit to IH it is a life changing process that takes you on a journey of self exploration within a safe and loving environment.

I now have a closer bond than ever with my horses and it wasn’t because of them changing to accommodate me, it was me that changed in my understanding of them and myself.

Thank you Emma and herd.”

It started as a Christmas gift for the woman who has everything- three days at an Intuitive Horse retreat. From the moment that I stepped into the Intuitive Horse world, my life has transformed immeasurably and for the better, starting with the decision to enrol on the facilitator training course. In practical terms this has resulted in my own 'Escape to the Country' journey with the recent purchase of a small farmhouse with two paddocks, and the eagerly anticipated re-homing of three rescue horses to form our herd. There have been other, less obvious but equally important shifts: the soothing of a previously anxious, restless mind and a deepened awareness of the richness, depth and stillness alive in each moment. This course has provided a solid framework in which to explore my own internal process, all the while supported by Emma, my peers and a most intuitive herd. It offers up a range of professional possibilities that are, not only attuned to the natural world but, in my experience, highly effective. As I approach my 60th year on planet earth, I look forward to a wonderfully bright and insightful future indeed. And the facilitator course has made all the difference.”

"I only properly got into horse owning 6 years ago, before that I was a keen but only occasional riding school rider, not having my own horse or having much knowledge about them either. 6 years on I’ve qualified as a facilitator of Intuitive Horse and have small herd of 3 horses. As I look back over the course I am only now fully realising just how much Emma’s training is way beyond what it seems to be on the surface (which is already incredible). Over the years spent with Emma on her retreats and then on the I.H. facilitator course I have learned to read horses and understand their language. Emma has taught me a pure and respectful way of being around these beautiful creatures and helped me to understand their core nature and their ways of communicating. Once you can read a horse, everything changes in how you relate to them. I used to look to ‘natural training methods’ for guidance when I first set out as a horse owner, but now I don’t see them as natural at all. Learning to read the subtlest of signals a horse gives as communication has allowed me to understand them at a profound level and also to find my own way to communicate with them, without the need for methods or training aids. I have learned a different way to be around horses and to allow them to be themselves around me. I can’t recommend this course enough, whether you become a facilitator or not it is a training that will truly enrich your life."

I went on the Intuitive Horse Facilitator training as a horse trainer & teacher wishing to expand on my knowledge and skills. What I got from the course was so much more profound and the experience not only enhanced my understanding of horses, but it allowed for me to understand more about myself.

Having the opportunity to be guided by Emma and her herd to deepen my knowledge of how horses help people, felt very privileged and it's inspired me to not only review the way that I teach and train, it also allowed me to be far more aware of my own processes and impact that I feed into a horse/human dynamic. I am of the belief that as teachers/trainers, we must try and fully understand how we impact on others and learn to be open to accepting that different people learn in different ways. This course helped me with this. For example, as a trainer/teacher, we are often given an agenda from an owner about what it is they wish to achieve with their horse. It is important to have a goal but it was easy for me to be pulled off track into trying to achieve their goal and not fully listen to the horse-which ultimately leads to the goal with a more fulfilled understanding & deeper relationship.

The IHF course was done at a pace that felt both spacious and safe. The time allowed to add anecdotal examples and input our own experiences, really consolidated the learning for me. The group size of four people was perfect for me and over the three modules, I felt like we formed a unique tribe of people-all who I really saw for who they are and who saw some of me for who I am. This in itself is a powerful experience and Emma facilitates the experience amazingly by allowing and not judging.

Tuning not only to our minds but into the body to understand how we are feeling can provide us with vital information. The IHF course helped me to learn more about how our bodies respond to certain situations and how to then work with it. The horses at Intuitive horse helped me to access my visceral experiences, as they are such great teachers of how to 'be' in the moment and 'be' in your body as that is where horses operate from.

I cannot thank Emma, Cam, Gypsy, Skye & the wonderful herd enough for setting up the IHF training course and giving me this opportunity to expand. I have no doubt that my horse clients, and ultimately their horses will benefit from the fact that I have taken part on this course, which has helped me understand horse/human dynamics on a deeper level.

The course taught me to slow down and listen. Then trust. Then the answers do come. This applies to both my horse training & teaching and to myself!”
